Celebrating Ombuds Day 2026

The Office of the University Staff Ombuds is happy to join ombuds offices and practitioners around the world in celebrating Ombuds Day this week and recognizing the important role ombuds play in fostering workplaces where people can raise concerns and navigate challenging situations.
The Office of the University Staff Ombuds at Georgetown serves as a confidential, independent, neutral, and informal place for staff to talk through workplace concerns, ask questions, and explore their options for navigating workplace challenges. Sometimes that means helping someone think through a difficult conversation. Other times, it may mean making sense of a complicated situation or simply providing a space to pause, reflect, and be heard.
Ombuds Day gives us an opportunity to reflect on why this work matters. In the increasingly complex world of academia, having a trusted and confidential place to talk things through can make a meaningful difference. We value the opportunity to listen, offer fresh perspectives, and help staff consider possible paths forward, while honoring the principles of confidentiality, independence, impartiality, and informality that guide our work.
We are proud to be part of the Georgetown community and to belong to a profession committed to helping people navigate workplace concerns with greater clarity and understanding.
Happy Ombuds Day from the Office of the University Staff Ombuds!
